Tour of the Reference Library at the Toledo Museum of Art.

Saturday, November17, 2007

Anne Morris, Head Librarian since 1965, spoke to the group of students and alumni for about two hours. The library, originally founded in 1901, serves not only museum staff and members, but also lends material to the public. The library moved from its original location to a new space and is currently located in the University of Toledo Art wing of the Toledo Museum of Art, which was designed by award winning architect, Frank Gehry. Currently, the library employs two full-time staff and four part-time staff. The library is approximately 9,000 square feet and houses 85,000+ volumes.

According to Mrs. Morris, they are the last to use the Metropolitan of Art classification system and are slowly getting their records entered into OCLC. The library does not have electronic journals so a search within the stacks is required. Staff will gladly answer reference questions via phone, internet or mail requests.According to Mrs. Morris, they are the last to use the Metropolitan of Art classification system and are slowly getting their records entered into OCLC. Both contained a wealth of information and are open to the public. It would be well worth your time to check out these valuable resources available to Michigan
residents and students. You can learn more about the special collections library here: http://www.lib.umich.edu/spec-coll/
and the map library here: http://www.lib.umich.edu/maplib/
