Tour of the Detroit Institute of Arts Research Library
Friday, February 1, 2008
The SLA@WSU chapter organized a tour of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Research Library and Archives on February 1, 2008. According to Head Librarian, Maria Ketcham, the library houses over 185,000 volumes with a large portion of the works in a foreign language. Founded in 1905, the DIA Research Library and Archives is the largest art museum library in Michigan and ranks in the top ten as one of the larger art museums libraries in the nation. After a four-year closure of the DIA for renovations, Ms. Ketcham is hopeful the library will re-open to the public by the end of 2008. All volumes were removed and are currently being re-shelved by staff, interns, and volunteers.
